Black Ink Crew’s Ceaser Emanuel Charged With Animal Cruelty After Hitting Dog With Chair

New York Black Ink Crew, a VH1 show about tattoo artists working in Harlem, which featured a 43-year-old artist named Ceaser Emanuel. Now, the show has completely severed its ties with Emanuel after witnessing a disturbing incident of animal abuse perpetrated by him.

Footage from a Ring camera has gone viral this year, horrifying both fans of the show and dog lovers everywhere. The disturbing video shows Emanuel hitting a dog with a folding chair, among other things.

The abuse incident filmed

This conversation really came to the fore when the Ring camera footage was posted on Twitter end of June 2022. The video has a watermark, but you can still clearly tell that Emanuel is abusing a dog.

The dog runs to the corner of the aisle, and he follows her. Emanuel then takes a nearby folding chair and repeatedly hits the dog with it. Later in the video, he puts a dog in a cage and then pushes the cage so that it turns over several times.

I’ll include it below so you can see (if you can bear it) what happened for yourself.

Impacts and consequences

Black Ink Crew reacted pretty quickly after this video went viral. VH1 fired Emanuel in June. On June 23, the network shared this statement:

“We made the decision to cut ties with Ceaser Emanuel of Black Ink Crew New York. Since next season was about to finish production, this decision will not impact the upcoming season.

On July 9, 2022, Emanuel surrendered and was charged with two counts of animal cruelty and one count of aggravated animal cruelty. However, he returned home later that day.

A rep for Emanuel said The shadow room:

“Ceaser Willing surrendered and was released the same day, July 9, from the Fulton County Police Department. His legal team is cooperating fully with the Fulton County Police Department to bring him justice for this incident. As we said before, the dogs are in a large space, safe and healthy.

Animal abusers are often repeat offenders, so if he is accused of animal cruelty, Emanuel should no longer be able to have dogs.

Defense of Emmanuel

Although Emanuel has officially apologized, he still maintains that what happened in this video was not animal abuse. Emanuel’s attorney, Walter Mosley, told PEOPLE that his client was trying to stop an aggressive dog from attacking others in the video.

“Ceaser is a dog lover and owns many dogs and has had many dogs and other pets in his life. It was an unfortunate situation as I understand it where there were a number of other aggressive dogs attacking smaller dogs and it was probably a lack of judgment as to how to break it down appropriately, to break up that interaction.

Emanuel himself had previously responded to the broadcast of the video with a similar sentiment:

Not once did I try to abuse this dog. I was trying to put him back in his cage. I’m not going to make excuses. I should have behaved better, but I’m not the cruel one to animals.

Mosley went on to admit that Emanuel’s methods were flawed, but his intentions were still good. He also pointed out that this video captured events “probably almost a year or more old” and that Emanuel had already worked on them.

“Somehow what wasn’t seen in this video is he was protecting the little dogs, he probably didn’t do it the best way so he’s asking for help and help to make sure that as a dog owner he is managing it properly and understands how to interact in a healthier way with all types of dogs and all his dogs, but it is certainly a situation that he had addressed a long time ago.

On top of that, Emanuel said he felt the sudden “disruption” caused by the broadcast of the Ring camera footage was unfairly damaging the character.

“I feel like I’m trapped in a way because the way I’m portrayed is not my character.”

Emanuel’s former co-star, Donna Lombardi does not agree. As she posted on Instagram:

“If you can treat a dog like that, it shows how sick of a person you really are. I don’t even get into this man’s life, but this video has me upset. Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE animals, especially dogs.

The damage was done in both directions, both to the dog and to Emanuel’s relationship with him. Black Ink Crew.
