Detectives say the family was inside the house when the dogs attacked them.

Based on property records and social media posts, it appears the attack took place at the home of the children’s grandparents.

Investigators say the dogs were pit bulls and described as “pets”.

Memphis Animal Services euthanized the two dogs Thursday afternoon.

It’s unclear what caused these dogs to attack, but we spoke to a long-time breeder/trainer of dogs, including pit bulls.

“We, as a whole, have to take responsibility for how we train them to be a bit too aggressive with them by introducing them to things they shouldn’t be taught.” said dog trainer Allen McCoy. “Because I see him like with the pit, he could be aggressive, but a mutt could be too, depending on the environment. It’s around.

McCoy also says the dogs could have been sick.

He says things like tumors or rabies can cause dogs to act out of character.

At this time, there are no charges related to the case, Shelby County Sheriff’s officials say it is an ongoing investigation.
