I have had dogs in my life and I miss some very much and some not so much. Does this seem significant to you? I didn’t hate dogs, some of them were, let’s say, difficult.
A group called “Protect My Paws” decided to have a little fun and try to figure out which dog breeds behave the “meanest” and which have “better behaved”. I admit it wasn’t very scientific since they came to their conclusions by looking at Instagram comments. It’s fun to see if they’re correct to some extent though. I’ve always had pooches that we’ve rescued from shelters, so I really can’t compare our dogs to this survey.
They refer to a study published in the Royal Society Science which showed how DNA can shape around 15% of a dog breed’s personality. I think people who own or have owned purebred dogs would be okay with that. In fact, I thought that number would have been much higher.
In their own words, here is what they stated to be their methodology:
“To create these boards, we compiled a list of good and bad dog hashtags (#gooddog, #cleverdog, #cleverpuppy, #baddog, #naughtypuppy, #cheekydog, #muddydog). Next, we compiled a comprehensive list of dog breeds and analyzed Instagram posts featuring a dog breed and any of these hashtags. (87,886 posts in total.) We then calculated the proportion of good and bad hashtags for each race to identify the naughtiest and wisest races. 43,367 geolocated messages were analyzed to create the maps. The data was collected in June 2021”
According to their unscientific but amusing study, the most well-behaved dog breed on Instagram was:
- The Korean Jindo dog. This breed scored 75.86% positive behavior tags
- The meanest dog breed is the Japanese Spitz. This breed scored 86.67% negative behavior labels
Where does your dog land on his unscientific study, check his results and have fun with it.
Here are some other fun facts they shared:
- South African country thinks it’s home to the baddest dogs
- The country of Ukraine thinks it has the best-behaved dogs
And when it comes to cities
- Moscow, Russia thinks it has the best-behaved dogs
- Canberra, Australia thinks its city has the meanest dogs
