Shelter dog ‘Little Gremlin’ reveals the sweetest smile when he finally learns to trust

When Speranza Animal Rescue received a call that a particularly irritable bulldog was heading their way, staff members weren’t sure what to expect.

As Frank walked in, and the rescue personnel took one look at his resting grumpy face and knew they might have a challenge ahead.

Frank’s demeanor matched his frown – he often acted aggressively and unpredictably. Either way, the staff members were happy to show Frank the love and compassion he so clearly lacked.

“He was found wandering around and he was not friendly at all,” the rescuer wrote in a Facebook post. “His permanent RBF was accompanied by low grunts and growls… This little gremlin is small in stature, but has an attitude for days on end. But we are already so much in love.

Although they were skeptical at first, the empathetic rescuers quickly grew attached to the spirited little guy.

“Some of the volunteers thought, ‘Oh no, another great attitude,’ when they heard about Frank coming,” relief representative Janine Guido told The Dodo. “[But then they] fell head over heels.

Using positive reinforcement, rescue workers patiently began to teach Frank good manners – such as how to ask for what he wanted without showing aggression and how to walk on a leash. Days passed and Frank began to trust his new friends and even have fun with them. It wasn’t long before his frown disappeared to reveal the sweetest of smiles.

Guido is thrilled with Frank’s transformation so far.

“Frankfurt is progressing well within the rescue and with the volunteers! Guido said. “He no longer greets people with grunts, which is a win for all of us.”

Soon Frank will be heading to a foster home, where he will continue to learn how to be a good boy. Once Frank is ready, he will be up for adoption and find his permanent home.

In the meantime, he will be able to do all his favorite activities, like playing with his toys and going for long walks.

Thanks to the patience and determination of dog lovers who believe in him, this once grumpy boy will live the happy life he deserves.

When Frank is ready for adoption, his information will be available here. To help other dogs like Frank, donate to Speranza Animal Rescue here.
