Trumpet becomes first sleuth to win Westminster dog show

A Bloodhound named Trumpet won the “Best in Show” award at the 2022 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. After 146 years of competition, he is the first Bloodhound in history to win the title. Only six other dogs have won the event so far. Bloodhounds are one of the oldest breeds trained to hunt by scent, but they are often overlooked in competition.

Many other incredible dogs have been finalists at the dog show, but this gorgeous Bloodhound deserves the title. And he looks so happy and proud of himself for winning!

The success of the trumpet

Trumpet is a 4 year old Bloodhound who is co-owned by Chris Flessner, Bryan Flessner, Heather Buehner and Tina Kocar. During the event, he was manipulated by Buehner, who also goes by Heather Helmer.

“I was shocked,” Buehner said of Trumpet’s victory. “Sometimes I feel like the Bloodhound is a bit of an underdog.”

Buehner thinks Trumpet knows how special he is, especially when he posed so well for the photos at the end. However, since he is a smelly dog, he couldn’t help smelling the decorations that were set up around him. Fortunately, all the articles got his approval.

A French bulldog named Winston, part-owned by NFL player Morgan Fox, came in second place. He obtained the title of “Reserve Best in Show”. Fox said he got Winston from his grandmother, who breeds and shows French bulldogs.

“It’s a joy to be with him,” Fox said of Winston. “He always walks around with as much of a smile on his face as a dog can get.”

The Westminster Dog Show is known as the “second longest running continuous sporting event” in the United States (the Kentucky Derby is the first). It was still hosted at Madison Square Garden in New York, but since the COVID-19 pandemic has been held at the Lyndhurst Estate in Tarrytown, New York, instead.

Many wonderful dogs have competed this year, and they all deserve to be winners. Still, Trumpet’s good looks and personality stood out to the judges, so he’s the lucky pup who holds the title for this year’s event. Congratulations Trumpet!
